{Prologue} {1}

"I've been summoned? King Lee summoned me?" I repeated, it didn't sound real to me. King DuMin Lee summoned me to his palace? Why me? I was just some homeless teenager, what on Earth would he want from me? I looked down at Chunji and Jiyeon who were looking at me with wide eyes. He said he was going to get them something to eat, and they needed food just as much as I did. I returned my attention to Jaejoong.

"Why does he want me?"

"He just requested that I bring you to his palace." His reply didn't answer my question, I just assumed that was the best I was going to get.

"Fine, let's go." Jaejoong nodded and led us down the steps, to a van. He opened the back door and signaled Chunji and Jiyeon to get in. They looked at me and I nodded reassuringly. The quietly got in and I followed them in, Jaejoong closing the door behind us. I pulled Chunji onto my lap and placed an arm around Jiyeon's shoulders, watching as Jaejoong got into the passenger seat and signaled the driver to begin driving. I looked down at the kids, they looked just as nervous and confused as I was. I did my best to give them the 'we'll be okay' smile, though I wasn't too sure if we would be.

As we went, I stared at the streets that once were a large bustling city. Now all  there was was rubble, destroyed buildings, and construction sites. Outdoor markets here and there, corner stores on very few corners, and homeless people looking for there next meal; this was Seoul. Well this was the poorer section of Seoul, many believed that the wealthy side rebuilt way faster than they were rebuilding here. I realized I was going to see if this was true once the van turned and the streets began to look less and less familiar. There were less homeless people are more finished buildings. There were more cars and more stores, less people begging for food and more easily buying it. Soon the van stopped, and I focused my attention to the building we stopped in front of.

It was definitely a palace. Covered completely in marble and stone, it stood tall and proud. Jaejoong opened the door and I got out, Jiyeon and Chunji following me. He led us up the stairs, the marble felt odd on my feet but it was smooth, amazingly smooth. Two men held the doors opened and we followed Jaejoong inside. The sight made me stop dead in my tracks. It was completely white, the most expensive furniture, linoleum and marble floors; it was the most amazing and beautiful place I've ever seen. I looked up as a woman walked over to us.

"Henry this is Lady Hyori, she'll take the kids and get them something to eat." I looked down at Jiyeon and Chunji, they were holding my hands tightly. I looked at Hyori then at Jaejoong.

"It's okay, she's a good woman and she'll take good care of them." I nodded slowly and looked down at the kids, giving them a reassuring nod. They nodded and let go of my hand, slowly walking over to Hyori. She took their hands and left with them. Jiyeon looked over her shoulder at me, her eyes full of worry. 'It'll be okay' I mouthed to her and she nodded, walking away with Hyori and Chunji. I looked up at Jaejoong. He waved someone over and I looked at him. He was tall, much taller than Jaejoong.

"Zhou Mi this is Henry, King Lee's special request. Get him clean clothes, a bath, show him his room, then get him some food." The taller man nodded and Jaejoong turned to me, nodding and walking away, leaving me with Zhou Mi.

"Zhou Mi... you're Chinese?" I looked at him and he nodded.

"Yes, I moved to Korea at the start of the war. Now come with me." He placed his hand on my shoulder and led me down a hallway. I looked at all the pictures of the wall, all were of DuMin. To say he was a narcissist was an understatement. Zhou Mi led me up a flight of stairs and to a room, opening the door and revealing a large beautiful bathroom.  I walked inside, taking in the sight as Zhou Mi turned on the water in the tub.

"Take as much time as you need, you may not realize it but you stink. Therefore you can take all the time in the world. All the things you need are in here. Call me when you're done and I'll bring in some fresh clothes." He looked at me and I nodded understandingly, watching as he walked out of the bathroom. I undressed and took a quick sniff of my  clothes,  realizing they did in fact stink. I slowly stepped into the  tub and relaxed into  the warm water, enjoying the feeling seeing as I haven't had a warm bath in a long time.  I looked around and spotted a bottle of shampoo. I grabbed it and poured a generous amount into my hair, scrubbing it in. Once I was done, I stepped out of the tub and dried myself off. I dried my hair and looked into the mirror. The skin that was once darkened by grime and filth was now milky white. The teeth that were so filthy were now an off white,  but they were still clean. My hair felt light and not weighed down by dirt. I finally felt fresh after so many years. Once I was done, I suddenly felt awkward. I opened the door and peeked out, looking for any sign of Zhou Mi.

"Zhou Mi?" It came out far too quiet for him to hear and I mentally kicked myself. Just as I walked out of the bathroom, I bumped into someone walking by. I stumbled back a bit and looked at the person I ran into, my breath hitching. He looked down at me and gave me a small smile, but all I could manage to do was stare at him with wide eyes. To say he was beautiful would be a huge understatement. His brown hair fell into his eyes and he stared at me, his chocolate orbs seemingly piercing right through me.

"Are you okay?" All I could manage to do was nod weakly. As he was about to say something, Zhou Mi ran up to us.

"Prince Donghae, I'm sorry if he disturbed you." He bowed and I looked at the beautiful man before me.

"It's fine Zhou Mi. Nice meeting you." He waved to me and walked away, leaving me in a daze. I felt Zhou Mi shaking me and I snapped out of my daze, looking at him.

"What happened?"

"I-I was looking for you and I bumped into him..." I heard him sigh and I looked down.

"That's prince Donghae, and as a lesser being than him, you shouldn't interact with him as much." I stared at him a bit confused, but eventually nodded. He handed me a pile of clothes and I took them quietly.

"Change into these." I nodded and walked back into the bathroom, changing into the clothes Zhou Mi handed me. They were a pair of black slacks, a plain black shirt, a black vest, and black dress shoes.  When I was finished I exited the bathroom and looked at Zhou Mi. He started walking and I quickly followed. He led me down a skinnier hallway and faced me.

"You're going to be a servant, and these are where the servant rooms are. The bathroom you were just in was one of the servant bathrooms. This entire hallway belongs to us. Understand?" I quickly nodded, the idea of me suddenly becoming a servant slowly sinking in.

"Jaejoong said you brought kids with you, they're upstairs. But you'll only be allowed up there occasionally."

"Occasionally?! You  can't keep me from them!" I snapped without thinking, only sinking back a bit when I saw Zhou Mi's glare.

"Yes, occasionally. They're on the same floor as the princes, and as a rule you aren't allowed up there unless you're called." I simply nodded, hating the fact that I wouldn't be able to see Chunji and Jiyeon as much. Zhou Mi opened the door to a room and I stared at him.

"This is your room." I looked inside and took it all in. It was plain, with a large bed and two bedside tables; one with a lamp on it. There was a dresser and two doors which I assume led to the closet. it wasn't much, which wasn't a surprise since it was a room for a servant.

"Do you have any questions?" I turned to Zhou Mi and shook my head.

"Well make yourself comfortable, I'll be back later." I nodded and watched as he walked away. As I walked into my room and sat on the bed, all that went through my mind was Chunji and Jiyeon, the fact that I just became a royal servant, and prince Donghae.
